MOTORSPORT PREVIEW – MARCH 19-22

With the Sandbox Grand Prix coming up motorcycle riders have a chance to tune up for this fun race at the end of the month. This Saturday and Sunday the Old Timers Motorcycle Club is hosting practice sessions, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track.

The same venue the Sandbox will be held at on March 28/29.

Local Stock Car and Outlaw Kart drivers will want to take advantage of the Playday Rattlesnake Raceway is hosting on Saturday. Rookie drivers are encouraged to be sure and make this test and tune session and things should begin around 10 a.m.

In other motorcycle news the KTM steamroller is continuing in this year’s AMA Supercross season. Last Saturday Ryan Dungey notched another victory in the 450 Class while Marvin Musquin came home the winner in the 250 East series.

This Saturday the series is in Detroit where Fox Sports 1 will broadcast, starting at 4 p.m., the heats and final races.

For those looking for something different Al Lockett is presenting this combined show this weekend at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. It’s the Off-road and Motorsports Expo, Boat and Recreation Show as well as the Spring and Garden Show.

There’s something for everybody. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, then 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday and finally 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

NASCAR’s top two division hit the final stop on its first western swing when both the Xfinity and Sprint Cup Series head for the speedway at Fontana.

On Friday there is practice and Cup qualifying on Fox Sports 1. Then on Saturday the Xfinity race, broadcast on Fox Sports 1 starts at 12:30 p.m., same time and network on Sunday when the Sprint Cup racers take to the track.

Indy Car fans will rejoice as that season begins this weekend at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. ABC will broadcast the race starting with a pre-race show at noon followed by the race.

The annual 12-hours of Sebring is also on tap for this Saturday. The marathon begins at 7:30 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 then switches to Fox Sports 2 for broadcasts at 9:30 a.m and 7 p.m.

MAVTV also brings its host of motorsport and automotive related programs this weekend.

Notable on Thursday, starting at 10 a.m., is the Dirty 30 show followed at 10:30 by Inside Drag Racing and at 1 p.m. by the SRL series at Irwindale. Most of this weekend’s programming are reruns of events from 2014.
