    Only one event in our area this week as the desert racers of MRANN return to Moon Rocks and bring back their traditional Halloween event, the Purge 100 Hare Scrambles.   As an added incentive to those racers left out due to the fact there was no fall motocross season, except for the race the local OTHG chapter staged last week, MRANN is offering a free one-day card. The action begins Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. when the Pee Wee racers take to their short track. Then at 12:30 p.m. the Mini Bikes, Saturday Women and Bombers start their event

    FERNLEY (Oct. 26) — Things looked pretty grim for the local motocross scene when SMRA pulled the plug on its fall series late this summer. However the Reno chapter of the Over the Hill Gang had other ideas.   After a planned five-race series had to be scrubbed the club gathered its forces and staged a one-off race this weekend at the Sandbox, or Fernley Lions Motocross Track as its officially known. “We decided it was time to have a race,” said Layne Kolbet, president of the OTHG chapter.     RENO (Oct. 23) — While there is no racing in our region this weekend for those that like Motocross the 2015 Super Cross schedule was released by Feld Entertainment. It is at the bottom of this article.   NASCAR fans will enjoy both the Camping World Truck Series and Sprint Cup Series battle it out on the “Paper Clip,” or Martinsville track. It’s the shortest track the top divisions of NASCAR compete on. Saturday’s Camping World Truck series race begins at 10:30 a.m. on FOX Sports 1 while Sunday’s Sprint Cup race starts at the same time but on ESPN.

  • WILD WEST HOSTS ULTRA 4’s

    MUSTANG (Oct. 18) — The Wild West Motorsports Park hosted another first time visitor this weekend. The Nitto Tires Ultra 4 National Championship series pulled into the park on Friday for practice and qualifying during its season ending event.   The drivers found a cross between brutal rock sections as well as high-speed areas and some fast corners. Its a mix that tested all of a driver’s talents as well as their machines. For one driver, Loren Healy from Farmington New Mexico, the day was his time to seal the deal on a perfect season and win the national championship.

  • ULTRA 4 NATIONALS READY TO ROCK

      MUSTANG (Oct. 17) — Practice and qualifying made for an action packed Friday at the Wild West Motorsports Park east of Sparks. With the last round of the Nitto Ultra4 National Championship being run Saturday time was of the essence for those drivers looking to either clinch a championship or improve their points position. Practice was done using the long course, which includes a very long, steep climb up a new section of the track. Qualifying was on the short track that omitted the big new hill section.   • SHOOT OUT ENDS 95A’S SEASON

    FERNLEY (Oct. 12) – The Fernley 95A Speedway ended its season with a two-day marathon at the annual shoot out. Over 100 racers were on hand and Sunday afternoon ended with the IMCA Modified feature that closed the track’s year.   And the California driver that won was actually using the race to shake down a new motor.     FERNLEY (Oct. 12) — Over the past several years the once vibrant Pro Stock Class has been diminished to almost nothing at some tracks or disappeared at others.   • ULTRA 4 RACES AT WILD WEST

    MUSTANG (OCT. 14) This weekend the Wild West Motorsports Park, located east of Sparks, north of the Mustang Exit on I-80, hosts another first time event. It’s the final round of the Nitto Tire National Championship Ultra 4 Series.   Competing will be everything from UTVs to open Ultra 4 machines as drivers race to secure class titles or improve their points positions.     FALLON (Oct. 4/5) — Rattlesnake Raceway ended its season with the annual Dirt Track Championships. However this year there was an unforeseen twist; rain canceled the scheduled date so the event was moved to the next weekend.   Sadly many cars that planned to be there weren’t.
