RENO, NV (Feb. 28) – This week’s Racing Preview highlights the calm before the action really gets into high gear locally. Nationally there is action in TV Land as well as on the Internet.
Close to home Reno Coffee and Cars begins the month with another gathering at the Keitzke Starbucks on Sunday. The event begins at 10 a.m. and as usual it is asked that people don’t do burn outs or rev their engines too high so the welcome will continue.
Other than that it will be a calm weekend, which is probably good since a major storm is due to hit out area.
Over the hill at the Northern California motocross tracks their practice schedules are up in the air due to incoming rain. So the best advice before leaving is to either check the hotline, 775-265-7223, just to be sure, or go to the website, www.repracingmx.com.
Southern Nevada is a hot bed of racing this weekend. Yesterday and today, Thursday, the World of Outlaws sprint cars will be at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas.
In addition it’s the 50th running of the Polaris RZR Mint “400.” There are many things happening and race day will be Saturday. For further information please check the Best IN The Desert website at, www.bitd.com.
This weekend NASCAR has moved from the east coast to southern Nevada as all three of its top series are spending the weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
One thing that’s different is that many of the practice and qualifying sessions are on the Follow Live app or on Fox Sports 1.
Thursday begins at with two practice sessions for the Camping World Truck series on Follow Live. (Sorry don’t have the times) then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub and Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30 at 4:30 p.m.
Friday begins at 11 a.m. as Fox Sports 1 has a series of practice sessions followed at 3 p.m. with Truck qualifying then at 4 p.m. the NASCAR Cup teams will qualify. The day ends at 5:30 p.m. with the Camping World Truck race.
Saturday starts a bit earlier at 9 a.m. with Cup practice followed at 10 a.m. with Xfinity qualifying then at 1 p.m. with that race.
Over at www.fanschoice.tv at 5:55 p.m. the network will stream the Pizza Hut 100 from Tucson Speedway.
For the two-wheeled fans at 7 p.m. Fox Sports 1 will air the Supercross round from the new stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
Sunday is pretty slim although www.mavtv.com will probably have a bunch of reruns. But the big event, starting at 12:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1 is the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Las Vegas.
That’s it for this weekend. A bit on the quiet side but next week things will ramp up again both here locally as well as across the nation.
Have a great weekend everyone.
